Five Loyola runners log personal bests at the event hosted by Florida State University.
Coming off a solid all-around performance at last weekend's JSU Foothills Invitational, the Loyola University New Orleans cross country returned to action on Friday morning to take part in the 2017 FSU Invitational hosted by Florida State University.
The event, held at the Apalachee Regional Park In Tallahassee, is the oldest collegiate cross country meet in the state of Florida, dating back to its inception in 1972. With such a storied tradition, it was no surprise that the some of the top teams throughout all the collegiate divisions were in attendance on Friday. Nearly 430 total runners made up the male and female college entries, with representatives from NCAA Division I powerhouses Florida State, Florida and the University of South Florida in the group along with eight NCAA Division II programs, three NAIA schools and five representatives from the junior college ranks spread across two divisions.
On the men's side, Walter Ramsey (FR/Marietta, Ga.) logged another gritty performance in the 8K as the talented freshman recorded a personal best time of 27:32 to leave the event in 70th overall. Friday's performance marks the fifth time this season that Ramsey was the top finisher for the Wolf Pack men's team and the second-straight event in which he set a PR in the 8k race. Brian Davis (JR/New Orleans, La.) notched his second best time of the season (28:22) to claim 85th while Liam Donovan (FR/Kirkwood, Mo.)'s PR time of 30:02 landed the freshman in 111th place overall. Daniel Welch (FR/St. Louis, Mo.) (31:08, 123rd) and Gustavo Brando Mena Pacheco (FR/Miami, Fla.) (31:12, 125th) each posted personal best times on Friday while Hernan Espinal (JR/Baton Rouge, La.) crossed the line 36:43 to leave Tallahassee with a 138th place finish.
