Wolf Pack cards a 287 on Tuesday to shatter the program record for 18-hole round by an impressive ten strokes.
The Loyola University New Orleans men's golf team returned to the Arrowhead Country Club in Montgomery, Alabama on Tuesday morning for day two of the 2017 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Men's Golf Championship.
Carding a program record 297 on day one, the Wolf Pack entered Tuesday's action in sixth place in the 10-team field.
Fueled by a record-tying low 70 (-1) by Mark Nijoka (SO/Houston, Texas), Loyola was able to tally an impressive 287 on Tuesday, which bested the program record the team set yesterday by an incredible 10 strokes.
The Wolf Pack used its record score on Tuesday to jump two spots in the standings and now sit in fourth overall and just five strokes back of Faulkner University for a top-three position. Loyola's three over performance on day two was the third lowest finish in the field, trailing only tournament leader Dalton State (-6) and current second place team Coastal Georgia (+2).
No. 3 Dalton State (-12) holds an eye-popping 22-stroke lead over Coastal Georgia (+10) for the top spot in the tournament. The Roadrunners' P.J. Shields (-7) is your leader through the first two rounds, ahead of teammate S.M. Lee (-4) and Coastal Georgia's Paxton Shuman (-2).
After becoming the first Wolf Pack men's golfer ever to be named to the SSAC All-Conference Team on Monday night, Philip Nijoka (SO/Houston, Texas) (143, +1) carded a 72 on Tuesday to finish the day in seventh place. Twin brother Mark's 70 on day two catapulted the sophomore 13 spots to land him tied for eighth heading into Wednesday.
Ryan Hicks (SO/Santa Monica, Calif.) jumped eight spots on Tuesday to T13 after recording a 72 (+1) while Jose Perez (SO/Pichincha, Ecuador ) left the course tied for 28th with a 152 (76-76). Jack Dickson (FR/Oldsmar, Fla.) made the second biggest jump for the Wolf Pack on day two, shooting up 10 spots to finish the second round tied for 35th at 157 (84-73).
