Loyola defeats Brenau 87-71 to earn inaugural SSAC Dance Championship.
It was a historic day on Saturday as the Loyola University New Orleans competitive dance team competed in their first-ever competition since becoming a program just one year ago.
Under head coach Rickey Hill, the Wolf Pack traveled to the Bandy Gymnasium to compete in the first SSAC Cheer and Dance Championships on the campus of Dalton State College.
Since Loyola and Brenau are the only SSAC programs to currently field a competitive dance team, the winner of Saturday's matchup would be crowned the inaugural SSAC Dance Champion.
Despite it being the Wolf Pack's first-ever competition, Loyola dazzled the judges on Saturday – earning a team score of 87 to defeat the Golden Tigers by 16 points and claim the inaugural conference dance crown.
For their efforts in the victory, Nikki Stone (FR), Victoria Wilson (FR/Texarkana, Ark.), and Elisabeth Cohen (FR/Newbury Park, Ca.) were awarded All-Conference honors. For her superior attitude and demonstration of the NAIA The Champions of Character five core values, Cohen also earned a spot on the SSAC Champions of Character squad.
